Vermont Fall 2010

Bennington College
(Vermont Fall 2010)

1

3

1

All I have left are the trees
& the distant hum of cars
As well as some invisible birds
Whose warbling covers the morning, 8 o'clock

Or seeing from my office window
The rhythmic walk of a slender
student, under the gentle September sun

In the office I prepare my lessons, forget
The world's pain and my own
I hear talk of Italian poetry

2

In the back of my sight: SUBARU
White letters sparkling in the twilight
& the highway, darker every minute
While the car lights fire off

Where does every one go? Clarity
departs & in the piano heard over the speakers
I feel my heart ache in the splendid vacuum

3

There she appeared, a new beauty
Every Sunday at six p.m.
To give me back the dreams I lost

Every meeting was sweet in the night
A fresh star in my latin soledad
& the Latin of Catullus between us

Sappho, her strokes on my notebook
Joy of a most knowing flower
Leaves her petal hanging in my

Strange heart
